Pedro Barriuso is one of the founding members of Element Power and is the Executive Chairman based in Madrid, Spain. In July 2006 Pedro Barriuso created his own renewable energy company—Helium Energy—with a group of former Iberdrola Directors. In September 2008 Helium Energy was acquired by Hudson Clean Energy Partners and is now part of Element Power. Pedro started working in renewable energy when he was General Manager of Acciona Group, leading the Renewable Energy Division. Following Acciona, he was General Manager of Iberdrola Renewables and Iberdrola Engineering. Pedro began his professional career in 1984 at Roldán, S.A. (Acerinox Group); joining consulting firm McKinsey & Company in 1988 as Senior Associate at the Lisbon and Milan offices, where he worked for the textile, food, and transport sectors; and in 1989 moving to the Celsa Group, the largest private producer of steel in Spain, first as General Manager of Nervacero, S.A., and, in 1992, simultaneously as CEO of another of the companies in the group, Nueva Montaña Quijano, S.A. In 1995, Pedro joined Tubos Reunidos, S.A., as General Manager, and in 1996 he moved to the Acciona Group as General Manager of the Diversification Area, in charge of the Services and Environment, Energy, Telecommunications, and Other Businesses divisions. In 2002, Pedro was appointed as General Manager of the Renewable Energies & Engineering and Construction Units of the Iberdrola Group, the second largest utility in Spain. During his tenure as General Manager, he transformed Iberdrola Renewable Energies from a relatively minor player in the wind industry (400 MW) to one of the best known and most successful wind organizations, with more than 4,000 MW in operation and real development opportunities in several countries exceeding 15,000 MW. Pedro graduated in Geological Science at the University of the Basque Country and received a Master’s in Economics and Business Management at the IESE Business School of the University of Navarra, Spain.
