Project Structuring and Financing

There are many different interpretations of what constitutes the ‘completion of development’ of an energy project. In many respects once a project has all of its consents and permits the work really starts in earnest to prepare the project for construction and operation, and the time and complexity of this period is frequently underestimated. Element Power sees completion of development as the point at which the construction of the project is able to be financed by an experienced equity provider and/or project finance bank lending on a non-recourse basis, having been advised by the most rigorous advisers in the market. Therefore the project has to pass scrutiny and pass the highest bar possible, and have all of the requisite elements to cover risk appropriately. We are highly experienced in this stage of the project value chain, and understand the needs of those providing risk capital from the point of notice to proceed under the construction contracts.

We not only have the capacity to retain equity in the projects we develop, but also bring third party equity capital into the financing structure and thereby realising value for reinvestment into our development portfolio. We decide this for each project depending on the circumstances at the time, but in any event we will always be a central part of the capital structuring and finance raising process.

Our structuring, procurement and negotiation capabilities provide seamless transition from development to construction to operation. Our in-house capital raising and financing experts have an impressive track record of raising project finance and equity capital to coincide with reaching the point where construction of the project needs to start.
Our highly experienced commercial and finance team have a deep understanding of financial markets, debt and equity products, and associated financial instruments including contingent obligations and hedging. We have an extensive track record in sourcing, negotiating, structuring and executing non-recourse project finance. One example of this is being the first company to use an Export Credit Guarantee from Euler Hermes on a non-recourse wind project financing in Ireland. As a result of our long history and experience we have formed excellent working relationships with leading banks in the sector.
Our capabilities include:
•    Equipment Procurement
•    Balance of Plant procurement
